You've seen Minister of sports and Tourism Anthony Mahler all over the news tonight but he was really only at the Marion Jones Stadium to say a few words about a young basketball prospect who got an athletic scholarship to college. Here's more:

Devin Daly, Min.. of State - Sports
"Very special day for me, especially today, knowing this young man Tyrell is finally capitalizing on the opportunity of following his lifelong dreams of going outside to play basketball. But more so than the actual sport of basketball, this is a great opportunity for this young man and his family, for him to actually pursue, an undergrad education free of cost, while utilizing his God given talent."

"This is a nostalgic moment for me as I attended this university. I started my journey at this university way back in 2012. But, my time is done."

"It's just a joyous feeling to celebrate this and I think this is something for him to celebrate and for us to support."

Anthony Mahler, Minister of Sports
"This is a huge opportunity for himself, his family, for Belize. We can continue to open doors for others. You go there, you put in the work. Focus on school first, and then, ball will always be there, noh?"

"And remember why you're going there, you're going there to excel at your skills and the discipline of basketball however the main purpose of leaving is to make sure that you complete your education."

Tyrell Griffith, Scholarship to Lake Superior State University.
"For the most part I am excited like they said work on my craft work on my shots. With my education I am more excited about that part and engineering all the way my whole family my brother is electrical I am more civil engineering building and stuff so for the most part I am excited."

"The main part is sometimes you feel like people like try to tell you what to do and stuff like that so I just took people advice, listen and worked on myself and improve."

Devin Daly, Min.. of State - Sports
"How would you compare him mindset and skill set to when you were at the age going on that journey?"

"I think he had he has more skill and I had when I was leaving, way more talent, way more, understanding of the game. And I think he, he is going at the, at the, at a little bit older age than when I left. However, I think he has all the skills, to put Belize on the map. This is the story. This is what it's about. You get opportunities to represent yourself, your country. You do what you do, and you, you show a good showing and then people from behind. It's a no brainer for them to come behind and give the opportunities somebody else based on the legacy that you had left. Right?"

He will attend Lake Superior State University in Michigan.
