Belizean beef could be going further into Mexico than ever before - and that's because SENASICA, which is Mexico's equivalent of the Belize Agricultural Health Authority, has given the green light for the entire country of Belize to export cattle to Mexico. Previously, only the Orange Walk District was cleared for cattle export
This comes after years of multiple cattle sweeps, countless rounds of lobbying, and cumulative baby steps which culminated last year July in a bilateral meeting on agriculture held in Chetumal in July 2021.
Other approvals granted were for Belizean veterinarians under the Regional International Organization for Plant and Animal Health to inspect cattle under quarantine, and for BAHA to certify corrals for quarantine. Previously, only SENASICA veterinarians could do these jobs.
Now with these approvals, it will expedite and increase the trade of cattle between Belize and Mexico.
