He's a top tier UDP street soldier - and even offered himself as a City Council candidate for the red in 2021 - but tonight Allan Kelly known as "AK" is in prison. He was remanded on charges of discharging a firearm in public and aggravated assault with a firearm.
The charges stem from a domestic dispute on Police Street where Kelly used his licensed firearm - allegedly in a dispute with his ex common law's new boyfriend.
The police press officer told us more:

"I can say that it is alleged that police visited a scene where neighbors complained that they heard two shots being fired, no. But the report that came to my office is that Allan Kelly was arrested and charged for one count of aggravated assault and another count of discharging a firearm in public. Police are saying that when they visited that area sometime after 5 yesterday evening that one Samuel Lawson made a report that he was at his girlfriend's house when Mr. Kelly arrived and an argument ensued between Mr. Kelly and the female. Mr, Lawson is saying that when he walked away from the house his girlfriend was immediately behind him and a 9 year old. Mr. Kelly took out a firearm and fired 3 shots over his head. Investigator's did find a licensed 9mm belonging to Mr. Kelly. That of course was taken away and is now an exhibit and this morning Allan Kelly was formally arrested and charged with the two counts that I mentioned."
Kelly was taken to court this morning where he appeared with his attorney, Godwin Haylock and was read two criminal offenses: One count of discharging a firearm in public and one count of aggravated assault with a firearm upon Truck Driver, 23-year-old, Samuel Lawson.
In court he pleaded not guilty to both and was remanded until August 25th because it is a firearm offense.
Kelly is known to accompany his party Leader Shyne Barrow to House meetings, and today Barrow said in a statement, quote, "I am sorry to hear of the accusations against Mr Allan Kelly who is a hardworking small business owner who I consider a friend and my UDP brother. Mr. Kelly maintains his innocence and his lawyers Oj Elrington & Godwin Haylock look forward to defending him in court where they anticipate he will be cleared of all charges," end quote.
