And while that traffic crisis is one looming problem for the island town - recently the other has been the instability of the power supply.
San Pedro has had to deal with extended power outages and consistent voltage fluctuations - causing all kinds of problems and leaving guests dissatisfied.
The Minister said the unstable power supply can't continue:

"Well if it continues like this we will have some problems in the tourism industry having the amenities that you are used to experiencing most of the people coming to Belize are from developed parts of the world and so we have to do better we have to see the improvements soon otherwise we will have some impacts on the tourism industry."
"There's already blame to go around I don't want to use this time to blame anybody we need to find solutions and we have committed to doing so in cabinet using renewable energy using solar using all of those things but it takes time for those investments to go in."
