A family in San Pedro is in shock and outrage tonight after their home was broken into on Sunday. But, it wasn't any ordinary burglar that broke down their door and took their property - it was the police!

Gregory Canelo took his wife and daughter out for a Mother's Day dinner around 7 that night. When they returned home after 11 pm, they noticed that his motorcycle was missing and the lock on his door was broken. When they got inside, they realized that $6,000 in cash and a pair of designer sunglasses belonging to his wife was also gone.

And on top of that, the police have reportedly refused to take his statement.

He gave us more details via Zoom this evening.

Gregory Canelo, San Pedro Town Resident
"When we came back, the first thing we noticed was the motorcycle, it was missing so when we noticed that, we were on a golf cart so we noticed the motorcycle was missing so at that moment, we didn't enter the yard or anything like that, we just took off like around the area, like looking in the dark zone seeing if we can find the motorcycle but there was no luck. After about 30 minutes we came back home and that's when my girlfriend got a call that said that the motorcycle was at the police station. So we entered the house to get the papers for the motorcycle and that's when we found out that the doors and everything were open and the house was also broken into."

"One of our neighbors was the one who called my girlfriend and that's when they told her that police have the motorcycle."

"Apparently there was some robbery that was happening around the area and the person that the police were looking for, apparently, they were running from the cops and they passed through our yard and that's what brought the police to our house, that's what they told us."

"We got back on the cart and we went to the police station and they didn't want to take our report or anything like that, they didn't want to tell us why they took the bike or why they got in the house or anything like that."

"At that moment, to tell you the truth, I was like, what the hell? I didn't believe it was the police at the beginning because I thought it was maybe someone from the island, someone that does that kind of stuff but after talking to the people from the area, then they told me it was the cops so then it was like more shocking for me because I didn't expect them to come and do that. I expect that from someone that walks around in the street or does that kind of stuff, especially the breaking of my door, that was the main thing. I said probably the cycle, if they could take for evidence, maybe they know why they took it. But the breaking down of my door that was the scenario that had me worried because I haven't had any thing with the police so I don't know why they did it."

"This was the lock that I had so this was not working anymore so I managed to put this one so I can lock my door from inside but I'm not able to lock my door from outside right now."

"I still need my cycle because I go to work and stuff so I need that transportation."

Police have taken his wife's statement.

Canelo says his neighbor took a video of the incident but also fears for his safety if he releases it. He has since retained a lawyer and is willing to take the matter to court.
