The United Nations Industrial Development Organization, in collaboration with the Ministry of Investment's Policy and Compliance Unit, hosted a landmark workshop today. The session brought together agro-producers and private sector stakeholders to strategize on enhancing industrial policies within the framework of the Blue and Green economies. Here are the highlights from today's event at the UWI Conference Room in Belize City:

Lincoln Blake, Director of the Investment Policy and Compliance Unit, Ministry of Investment

"The government through the ministry of investment has been looking at ways of how to diversify the economy and how to make sure that we are in the higher or atlas grow into the higher echelons of the global economy. And there are 2 initiatives that are currently working at, with the ministry of investment, 1 is the global digital services, policy and strategy with a focus on the Orange economy, and the other one is the industrial strategy with green and blue industrial policies which basically is why we are here today. We got the assitance from UNIDO the United Nations industrial development office to prepare strategies and get technical assistance and training so that Belize could have the technical knowledge of how to react to the development of policies and initiatives to develop and nurture industries and economic activities that are ready to go to the next level not only for export but also for local consumption. We have identified the 2 sectors of the economy, the green and the other one is the blue economy."

Dr. Nobuya Haraguchi, UNIDO

"These are all about industrial policies we have to use effectively so that we can accelerate economic transformation of the country and for this we have to think together, private sector, public sector, NGO's international organizations have to be addressed in national transformation strategies."

"And these diagnostics will be the basis for industrial policy formulation for which my colleague at NIDO is working and we are working together but this is a diagnostic to keep information for industrial policy formation."
