On Tuesday of last week Ann Thompson was jogging near her home in Esperanza when a Land Rover driven by 68-year-old Henry Lisbey hit her as the vehicle ran off the road and on to the side walk. Tonight family members are gathered at Thompson's bedside simply waiting for her to die. Thompson's sister Deonicia Ochoa says this is a difficult time for the family as Thompson was the sole caretaker of her mother.
Deonicia Ochoa,
"It was like Tuesday evening around 5:30 my sister was jogging and this vehicle, I don't know what really happened, but he lost control and he hit my sister and according to eyewitnesses she didn't really get hurt badly, she was just trying to get up and the vehicle didn't stop, it just swung back on the road and that is the time when it hit my sister on her head causing her to be brain dead right now."
Alfonso Noble,
So she was hit two times?
Deonicia Ochoa,
"Yes she was two times and the second time she was dragged like 15 feet. Medically she is dead, we got that from the doctor, medically she is dead because she is brain dead and right now we are just waiting for the hour to come when she will go."
Alfonso Noble,
They are going to take her off the life support machine?
Deonicia Ochoa,
"No we aren't taking off the life support because the doctor says we don't have to. To what he knows it will be either today or tomorrow that she will just pass away. For us, sometimes for me, it's like a dream but then I come to realize I'll never see her again. She will never be around anymore and its very very hard."
Doctors do not expect Thompson to recuperate as her injuries were extensive and is only being kept alive only by a life support system.
