In Supreme Court today, 31-year-old Mica Lee Williams was found guilty of dangerous harm after a jury of 6 men and 3 women deliberated for about 3 hours and came out with the unanimous verdict.

The case dates back to a shooting on February 16, 2004 when Andre Douce, a Haitian national who was a security guard at Vin Hong Supermarket situated on Euphrates Avenue, was shot in the chest during an attempted robbery. Douce who left the country shortly after the incident was not here to testify however a statement which he gave police in which he identified Williams as the shooter was admitted into evidence.

More compelling evidence came from an eyewitness, former Cabinet secretary and Magistrate Orton Clarke, who was at the scene at the time of the shooting. He identified Williams as the shooter in an identification parade. Williams for his part gave a statement that he was elsewhere at the time of the shooting and produced two alibi's, from his girlfriend and his sister. Apparently, the jury didn't believe any of them and found Williams guilty.

The trial judge, Justice Michelle Arana set the date for sentencing on the 15th June. She told Williams who was not represented by at attorney the three week interval should give him ample time to find witnesses to make a mitigation plea on his behalf.
