An 80 year old was stabbed, police say 15 times, and the only persons detained are his two sons. As we reported, Orange Walk resident George Anglin Sr. was stabbed in a shed adjacent to his home on Progress Street, a block away from the Police Station. His 26-year-old son Berris claims that they were in the shed when two men assaulted them.
He says he left his father in the clutches of these armed men, and ran off to call police, but by the time they came, the 80 year old was dead.
But the story isn't adding up for police, who note that for all the violence done to him, Anglin Sr. was not robbed. They also note that the route Berris Anglin claims to have taken from the shed to the police station ignores a shortcut and is in fact the longest available route. Those inconsistencies have forced police to detain the brothers Berris and George Jr. Still at this point police have no murder weapon and no physical evidence pointing to who the killer or killers may have been, though they have taken statements from a number of passers-by and area residents.
And while that's one side of the case, another, the forensic investigation has been delayed. The family of George Anglin Sr. received a rude and undeserved comeuppance this morning when they brought their father's body to Belize city for a post mortem
Examination. It was supposed to have been performed this morning, but because the Anglins reached 10 minutes late, Forensic Pathologist Mario Estradabran refused to perform the autopsy. Senior personnel from the Ministries of Home Affairs and Health tried to intervene, but to no avail; Estradabran has resolved that it will not be performed until Monday morning.
Apart from further clouding an already tragic death, the delay is one more inconvenience to the family who was already forced to pay to get the body released from the Orange Walk morgue, and then had to bring the body down themselves, which should be the police's responsibility but they had no vehicle available.
