A 12-year-old girl from orange walk is missing and tonight her family fears the worse. Alvina Vicenta Barrera went missing from her home in Orange Walk Town yesterday afternoon. She hasn't been seen since and it is believed that she may be with a male neighbor. That has her grandmother, who is also named Alvina Barrera worried. She pled for her first grandchild to return home this afternoon.
Alvina Barrera, Grandmother of Missing Girl
"...Sunday and up to now she hasn't got back home as yet. The little brother told the mother that the young man from the other side she is supposed to have gone with but then they are asking for the young man and his family doesn't know where he is. They asked the young man's brother and he says he doesn't know where his brother is and they can't find him anywhere. All we would want is for the little girl to come back home."
Keith Swift,
What do you think happened to your grand daughter?
Alvina Barrera,
"I don't know, I have no idea."
Keith Swift,
You believe she may have been abducted?
Alvina Barrera,
"Yes."
Keith Swift,
By whom?
Alvina Barrera,
"I don't know, I don't have no idea because they live in Orange Walk. I live way down in Belize here; I don't know. The little girl was here last week with me and I just sent her home back Monday morning so she could have gone to school. I just want them to bring her back so I could take care of her."
We should note that the picture provided to us by the family is from 6 years ago. Alvina is now 12 years old. Police in Orange Walk are investigating but there is a belief that Alvina may have left voluntarily.
