And while EP Yorke is making this drug free week, it fits nicely into the wider context of youth week, which is also being observed this week. The theme is: "youth speak out, make a stand, be empowered." It began yesterday with church services and continued today eith the official opening at the Youth for the Future offices near the Belchina Bridge. Program Director for YFF Douglas Hyde explains that the week is being observed with special emphasis on crime and violence and HIV and Aids.
Douglas Hyde, YFF
"The week is to focus on awareness countrywide, north to south east to west. Today we have the open day and the open day is where we have invited other stakeholders, other youth service providers, to come and provide information about the agencies that provide youth work. We also have Youth for the Future giving out information on HIV/Aids and crime and violence. We are focusing on these two topics because we realize how important it is that crime is rising when it comes to a young person and HIV again with our young persons too. So this week we hope to bring better awareness to our young persons within these topics."
