But one of the more intriguing elections on the horizon will have little to do with the Elections and Boundaries Office. It's the long-anticipated convention for Belize Rural Central, Ralph Fonseca's division. Two weeks ago, PUP Chairman Francis Fonseca told Positive Vibes Radio that the convention would be held before the end of January. Now, reports to 7NEWS say that Ralph Fonseca will not offer himself for the post.
The two frontrunners are expected to be Cardo Martinez and Dolores Balderamos-Garcia. Again, those are reliable reports from within the PUP, but unconfirmed by the Fonseca camp which has made only very guarded maneuvers amidst all the speculation.
The PUP had hoped to close all conventions by the end of July but Belize Rural Central has been delayed because Fonseca had reportedly not made up his mind over his future in politics, and was affected by knee surgery.
