It's an annual occurrence at many schools, but today Edward P. Yorke High School observed its first drug awareness week. Today there was a grand opening at the school complete with a mini-concert. We stopped by to see Supa-G infect teachers and students with the drug free message.
Alfonso Noble Reporting,
This was the scene at EP Yorke High School this morning as the high school held opening ceremonies for its first ever observance of drug awareness week. Complete with a mini-concert by Supa-G the students danced and got on bad all in the hopes of getting out the anti-drug message.

"Drugs is a very serious problem in our country especially among our secondary school students. This week of activities, during this week of activities we hope to create awareness of the harmful effects of drugs on the health of an individual and the country as a whole. I know that a lot of students are social drinkers, not necessarily of Edward P. Yorke High School, however we want preventative programs in our school rather than reactionary programs. Usually, once a child does not engage in drug activities, in his or her earlier age, then more than likely they will not engage in drugs later on life. So if now we can reinforce and continue to reinforce that drugs are negative, look at the links as it relates to the negative effects of HIV/Aids, teenage pregnancy, the whole crime and violence and so forth, then we believe that as our students move forward, we will have healthier students moving forward to becoming healthier citizens."
Better citizens and today that began with Supa G students and teachers taking to the stage to get a natural high.
Activities for the school continue through the week with the highlight on Wednesday with a school parade.
