It's the kind of violence that is being condemned by women's rights activists on this International Women's Day but condemning it and ending it are not quite the same thing.

60 year old Phillipa Rosalez told police that at around 6 on Monday March 4 she was at home when her husband 52 year old David Cruz came calling. She says he was drunk and began a violent argument which and stabbed her in the chest.

Cruz is now charged with the crimes of attempted murder and dangerous harm, while she is in the hospital recovering.
