He embodied the spirit of art perhaps more than any other Belizean - and so it was fitting that funeral services for Belize's gifted giant - George Gabb was held at the Bliss Center for the Performing Arts today. It was a first for the Bliss and the ceremony was attended by the Governor General and Prime Minister Said Musa. The eulogy was read by his son George Junior. Here is a clip from it.
George Gabb Jr.,
"He defined who he was. And he was and will be different things to different people. He is the teacher, he is the poet, he is the sculptor, he is the brash Creole man from Belize in heaven explaining to St. Peter that the pearly gates of heaven will work better if the hinges are given more play and while training the arch angel Gabriel, tells him to tuck his wing at just the right moment to pick up at least twice the speed of light. More than lightly he had a disagreement with Einstein over whether it could work and if so, how much speed Gabriel would gain.
Yes he is a messenger of truth. He is the sleeping giant: George Seymour Gabb. Daddy, pleasant journey and welcome home."
After the ceremony at the Bliss, his body was interred at the Lord Ridge Cemetery in a plot next to Phillip Goldson.
