A week ago tonight 19-year-old Jaime Ramirez with his eye still bruised, told the nation he was beaten up by the police for no good reason. Well an internal investigation was conducted and the results are in, and it gives Ramirez another black eye. Commander of Internal Affairs at Eastern Division Sergeant Glen Rivero, told us this morning that based on statement from witnesses on the scene police used justifiable force to detain Jaime Ramirez who they say was in a physical confrontation with his girlfriend. That’s key because Ramirez and his girlfriend Claudia Orellano denied that they were involved in an argument. Sergeant Rivero says the evidence points to the contrary.

“I’ve conducted several interviews within the vicinity of the incident, where the incident occurred, and from the eyewitness’ account, they are corroborating the story that was reported to us by the police. There was a fight which this guy was involved with and that’s the reason why the police ended up intervening however he had escaped from the vehicle which caused the police to use the necessary action to reprehend him. The action by the police was necessary.”

Through his legal aid attorney, Audrey Matura Shepherd, Ramirez says he planned to seek constitutional redress in the Supreme Court.
