Last week residents in Belama Phase 3 told us they’ve been living in a virtual water world as they are forced to walk through stagnant pools of water to reach their homes. Well today residents in the Banak and Lakeview Street areas say that's nothing to what they’ve been living with for years. They showed us what life is like for them.

Keith Swift Reporting,
This is what the road to home looks like for residents who live in the alleys off Lakeview and Banak Streets. Our team trudged through the pool of muddy water with our rubber boots but these children weren’t so lucky. Everyday they have to walk through the muddy water to leave their home to get to school. Their mom Rosalie Reid says she’s been complaining for years.

Rosalie Reid, Living in Water
“The neighborhood is tired of this condition we’ve been living in for some while and we go sand ask for help for them to full up the place so we could have a decent place to go home and up to now nobody can’t do anything for us. We want somebody to do something about the issue and come out and assist us because I mean we don’t have to live like this. I don’t think it is worth it and I don’t think we should live like this. This is what you have to deal with at night. You have snake crawling through here and in the day. I have three children and they have to go through this everyday, everyday. No way out because you go through any of these alleys and the same thing you’ll meet. I don’t know what else to tell them, all I hope they do is come and do something through here since they say its all about the people.”

The complaint from Annette Gentle who lives in Lakeview Alley is pretty much the same.

Annette Gentle, Living in Water
“The children have to go through this water everyday to go to school, come back this way to go from school. Every time when it rains, right here is where the water settled and this area it settled. We asked Minister for help, from Patrick Faber, and Miss Carolyn Trench. Nobody comes through here to come and help us. We got promises but everyday we have to go through this water, everyday. I used to buy pallets and put here but you can’t get the pallets right now and all we are asking for is help for them to come and full through here with sand and gravel or some stones. We really need the help, especially for the children.”

Keith Swift,
How is this affecting your life?

Annette Gentle,
“Well it makes the children them get sick and it gives you ground itch. This water is contaminated because you have a sewer thing right there and all the water comes up from the sewer and runs all this way, even up to the first step in my yard. So we need some help back here.”
