A taxi man who fought off an armed assailant on Saturday morning was lucky he didn’t also get shot. 54 year old Michael Hemmans says around 3 am he picked up a customer at the Princess Hotel who asked to be taken to Banak Street. They ended up on Sarstoon Street which is where the passenger pulled out a gun and placed it at Hemmans’ neck. The gunman demanded money and Hemmans handed it over but that is all he got because Hemmans managed to push his assailant out of the car – which is when he sped off. The gunman fired four shots which shattered the rear windshield of his Ford Escort.
