And while Belize City police try to solve the city’s three murders, their counterparts in the capital city have also been busy over the weekend. The body of twenty four year old Cordel Cayetano, the Manager of Standburn Quick Loan, was found in some bushes near a residential area on Sunday morning. But police believe he was killed early that morning when residents heard gunshots in the area. The officer in charge of the National Crimes Investigation Branch James Magdaleno told the press that police found an assortment of weapons near to his body.
Sr. Supt. James Magdaleno, National Crimes Investigation Murder
“About 4:15 am on the 26th Belmopan police received the information of shots being fired in the Piccini area of Belmopan. Police visited the area where they discovered a beach cruiser bicycle in a drain on the side of the road in that same area. Further checks were made and we discovered three knives with blood stains, six 9mm expended shells, two slugs, and a cellular phone.
On the 26th about 7:30, when it was first light, police returned to the scene in the area. They continued to make searches in the area and about 25 yards away from the roadside in the bushes they came across the body of a dark complexioned male person lying face up covered with dry leaves, apparently dead.
That person has been identified as Cordel Cayetano, 24 years, of a Belmopan/Roaring Creek address. He had what appeared to be gunshot wounds to his abdomen, two wounds on the left chest area, and a wound on the left side of his head. The investigation continues in Belmopan. We have no suspects at this time.”
Cayetano was shot once to his abdomen, twice to his chest and once to the head.
