Belize City Police have still not detained anyone in connection with the brutal stabbing death of 61 year old Egbert Broaster – a colourful street character who was known as Rusty Iron. From all accounts, it was a senseless killing as the victim was not known to be a trouble maker but a man who was often seen dressed in a crocus sack pushing his wheelbarrow filled with stones and shouting at no one in particular.
Reports are that he may have gotten into an argument on Thursday night as he pushed his wheelbarrow along Central American Boulevard. Initial investigations reveal that there were hard words exchanged between the victim and his killer who used a knife to inflict a deep stab wound. Broaster died ten minutes after being rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.
Today Officer in Charge of Crimes Investigation in Belize City ASP Julio Valdez says they have been looking for a suspect based on an eyewitness account.
