They’ve had a few dancehall hits but the Coolie Rebels band from Punta Gorda know that nothing crosses over quite like a Christmas CD. So they’ve taken a break from the hard charging rhythms to put together a wistful, cheery recording for the pascua. It has 11 tracks, including seasonal standards such as Feliz Navidad and Good Mawnin Miss Lady. Three of the founders, Lady G. Daddy P and Mr. Joe stopped by to tell us about it.
Mr. Joe,
“We put it together because around Christmas is celebration time and we people in PG are used to that old time brukdong thing and different thing so we really take Christmas serious and that is the reason why we made a lot of effort to put everything together.”
Jacqueline Godwin,
And what has been like for you Lady G, singing along with your husband and your brother, what has this experience been like?
Lady G,
“I find it wonderful. I like it. This is the first time I’ve tried to sing with Coolie Rebels, the first time I’ve tried and I like it but it is a lot of work, a lot of effort.”
The CD is available widely.
