A weekend fire devastated two homes - and it all happened because a gas attendant was checking a butane take with a lighter, of all things.

It happened in the Toledo village of Otoxha during a routine gas tank changeover. This morning, the head of National Crimes Investigation ACP Joseph MYvette gave us more details about the ongoing investigation.

ACP Joseph Myvette, Head N.C.I.B
"On Saturday sometime after 2 pm police were alerted to a house fire in Otoxha village where the police later arrived and spoke with one Thomas -- who reported to the police that they had bought butane from a butane gas company and in the process of connecting back the tank, the tank was apparently leaking from the valve area and the distributor and check the leakage by use of a lighter and that ignited causing one of the homes to burn which was a wooden house with a thatch roof, and this also caused another wooden house which was nearby to also be completely burnt, we are carrying out an investigation in relation to this matter and that person is detained pending this investigation."

Reporter:
"Sir you have both the person and the lighter in custody?"

ACP Joseph Myvette, Head N.C.I.B
"I know of the person I do not know whether or not we have retrieve the lighter."

The police currently believe the fire to have been accidental, however, if it is proved that the fire was intentionally caused by the distributor, a 19-year-old male, he could face charges of arson.
