A United Airlines flight en route to El Salvador made an emergency landing at the Philip Goldson International Airport yesterday after one of its passengers fell ill.
71-year-old Salvadorean Maria Vasquez was in distress and was taken off the plane around 1:30 in the afternoon, only to pass away at the airport shortly after. Superintendent Alejandro Cowo of CIB briefed the media on what the police know.
Supt. Alejandro Cowo, OC, CIB Belize City
"What we understand is that yesterday sometime after 1:30, a Delta Airlines Airplane had made an emergency landing at the Philip Goldson International Airport. I think it was travelling from Los Angeles to El Salvador. Upon landing at the airport, medical personell boarded the plane and inside the bathroom they observed a female who was vomiting and had other symptoms. She was removed from the plane and taken to a room inside the PGIA and while she was being attended by a doctor she passed away."
"I know that she was swabbed and the swab came out negative and according to the doctor, they have established through the Embassy with other family members that she had a sickness and that is what we are looking at the moment."
