Tonight, a massive and dangerous hurricane is staring down the Central American Isthmus - and coastal residents of Nicaragua and Honduras are bracing for Category 4 winds when it makes landfall late tonight.
It's a terrifying storm whose wind speed has doubled in the past 24 hours, and it could intensify more before landfall.
Eta now has sustained winds of 130 miles per hour with higher gusts.
The National Hurricane Center says that "Catastrophic wind damage is expected where Eta's eyewall moves onshore within the hurricane warning area beginning tonight," the NHC said.
The storm will also deliver rainfall with estimates of 15 to 25 inches, and isolated amounts up to 35 inches in Nicaragua and Honduras.
Life-threatening storm surge along the Nicaraguan coastline is expected to be up to 18 feet above normal tide.
