A robbery and shooting on Saturday evening shook up Central American Boulevard, but the cops say that the only assailant they've been able to arrest is a minor.
He was found crouched behind the store in the immediate aftermath of the shooting. And today Superintendent Cowo told us what specific apparel they're using to pinpoint those who seem to be up to no good.
Supt. Alejandro Cowo, OC, CIB Belize City
"On Saturday just after 5 p.m. police responded to shots fired on Central American boulevard as a result they visited ABC shop which is located on Central American boulevard where they spoke to the business owner who reported that whilst he was inside of his business place two male persons approached the burglar bar window and one of the male persons pushed a firearm inside of the window and demanded to hand over cash, a struggle ensued between them where a shot was fired and the two persons ran from the building, quick response, quick police response led to the detention of a minor who was hiding at the back of the building, who was identified to be one of the person's that attempted to rob the business owner, that person was arrested and charged and he'll be taken to court this morning."
"We know that as of recent there has been an increase and we are urging our police officers to target especially those on bicycle as we have noted that this is the modus that they are using to transport themselves especially bicycles and especially by that of wearing the mask and a cap so we are stressing to our officers that when you see these sort of persons on the street those are the ones to be targeted because those are the ones that we suspect that are carrying out these robberies, no."
"There have been several patrols since Thursday in different areas in the city and especially where the recent shooting took place likewise."
It seems that for the time being you'll want to refrain from masked bicycle riding while wearing a cap.
