There are reports of a major traffic accident this evening in Unitedville Village. Initial reports say it is a pileup between 3 vehicle and a motorcycle. So far, there are no reports that it was fatal. We are told rain was a factor.
It is one more, in a series of accidents out west recently - and tonight a UDP politician could be facing serious charges for a recent one. 7news has confirmed that a 92 year old man who was knocked down by John August, the UDP's losing candidate in Cayo Northeast has died.
As we reported, it happened two days ago at 11:15 in the morning in Unitedville village when Daniel Gongora was attempting to cross the highway in front of Yi Long Shop.
August was approaching in his Isuzu Dmax when he saw the elderly man in he road. He says he applied brakes and tried swerving to avoid a collision, but still ended up hitting him with the right front side the vehicle, knocking Gongora unconscious and injuring his hand. The 92 year old was transported to the Belmopan hospital in an unconscious state and died earlier today.
We await word on what charges August will now face.
