The police now have a lot on their hands with those abuse cases, and they are already severely short staffed as well since hundreds of officers are currently infected with COVID-19. And now, Police Corporal David Jimenez has died, and the virus is suspected to be the cause.
Jimenez was reportedly rushed to the hospital in an ambulance this morning after he started experiencing respiratory distress and seizures. Reports to our newsroom are that the ambulance arrived at the hospital around 6:30 AM, but was blocked from entering the building until about 9:00 for a number of reasons which are still unclear.
Jimenez's seizures continued during this time, and he reportedly passed away in the ambulance while waiting to be admitted - just as Dr Fernando Cuellar warned last week of COVID patients dying in the parking lot.
If Jimenez's test results are COVID positive, he would be the second cop to die from the virus. The first was 25-year-old Elsner Medina who died at the beginning of November.
Jimenez was one of seven officers awarded back in May, for outstanding performance in making most arrests. He was recently promoted to Corporal. He was attached to he Precinct 3 support team.
