In the middle of the night, a man with no fixed address was gunned down on a London Bridge in the Holy Emmanuel extension area.

His bullet - riddled body lay there for about seven hours until an area resident found him while on her way to work. And since he was not from the area, the police weren't able to positively identify his body until this evening.

The victim is 39-year-old Jose David Funes Lopez, who simply goes by "David." And his tragic end came almost 5 years after the brutal murder of his wife, 29-year-old Juliane Burke.

Funes was devastated after the killing but not much is known about his life from then to now, when he met his demise at the hands of a gunman. Courtney Menzies went to the scene of the crime looking for answers. Here is that story.

A man was murdered last night in the vicinity of Holy Emmanuel extension, but up this morning, the police had him labelled as a John Doe.

He was shot several times sometime after 11pm and it was almost 12 hours later that a resident in the area realized the victim was a family friend, David Funes.

Funes is no stranger to violence because in 2017, his wife was brutally chopped to death by her own brother, in front of her then 6-year-old son. Funes had given an interview at that time.

David Funes, Husband of the Deceased
"An emergency popped up, so I regret I had to go that side and my neighbor I took him too because we works with me and about 6:30 I actually hug her right there, kiss her, told her I'll be back. The funny part was I guess that was the goodbye"

"I hugged her and kissed her and then I went and by 6:30 the bad news came, because bad news do fly fast. They told me, someone had cut her and she was critical. Then someone from the hospital called me, telling me the same thing. I thought it was a joke from the beginning, but it was not. The part is that it's her own brother that did it. I could understand if it was an affair with another guy, but her own flesh and blood did it, for over some stupid paperwork. Not even money or something huge."

But it's unclear how Funes managed to move on from that tragic incident, because reports are that he had no stable home and had a troubled relationship with the rest of his family.

Another resident, who lives near the crime scene, said he had never seen the victim in that area before. It was his daughter who found the body.

Mr. Paul, Neighbor

"This morning my daughter, minutes to six, she came out here and she said, grandpa, grandpa! I say what's wrong? It's not time to get up yet, because I don't get up, I'm not working. I told her I'm not getting up right away. She said alright then but somebody's out there grandpa, dead. Because we heard the shots last night, right, 11:30. The bang I heard was the last one. Bang! But all of them heard the first amount because it's more than one shots. So I told her, we can't do anything, I came out and then the rest of sibling come follow me and we stand up and watch it, I said, Oh Lord, Good Father. But I don't know who is he, he's a Spanish person."

Courtney Menzies:
"So did you guys call police?"

Mr. Paul, Neighbor
"I did. I called 911."

Courtney Menzies:
"And what time did they show up?"

Mr. Paul, Neighbor
"In a jiffy."

Courtney Menzies:
"And you said this is the first time you've experienced something like this so is this area usually quiet and not violent?"

Mr. Paul, Neighbor
"Yes, yes. Just maybe argument and quarrel among themselves."

But this was one disagreement that ended in a callous loss of life, since police reported that Funes had gunshots to his chest, face, neck, leg and a graze on his arm.

It is unclear if Funes had any children other than his stepson. He had been working as an AC technician.
