We also asked Lisel Alamilla about her organization and its conflict with the residents of Indian Creek. You'll remember about a year ago when the villagers put her and her organization on blast for allegedly trying to block them from entering that land under dispute.

She said that there was a recent flair-up, involving a villager allegedly firing a BB gun at a ranger who works for Fauna and Flora International:

Reporter
"Has the tensions between your organization and the neighbouring Maya communities subsided or do you feel that it will always be a situation where the slightest spark will ignite that powder keg?"

Lisel Allamilla

"No, what is interesting and what we've been tracking is that the only time things get heated is right before they have to go an make an appearance to the court. So it's almost like they are doing theatre in order to have something to report to the court and say oh look at us, we are in danger, our lives are being threatened, we are at risk, we are losing access to our resources and the minute the appearance is finish, everybody go back and start respecting that this is private land, but nothing major, nothing that is out of the ordinary. So, the last incident that was a big alarming to us was that our rangers were fired at by BB guns and BB guns may be toys in some for boys or girls use BB guns for toys, but BB guns can actually kill you and so one of the residents from Indian Creek did fire a BB gun at one of our rangers and so when they go to the court and make reports that in facts their lives are being threatened, the truth is it is the lives of the rangers who we have hired that are being threatened."

You'll hear from the head of SATIIM later on in the news.
