And in other news, over 100 undersized lobster tails were reportedly caught being smuggled out of Belize at the Philip Goldson International Airport earlier today.

Reports are that there is a ring for undersized conch and lobster between Belize and Los Angeles, and suppliers came into the country to buy a large amount of the undersized tails - which received no authorisation for export.

Credible information is that this is an enterprise that is built upon the export of the undersized conch and lobster out of Belize, which is sold in LA for an exorbitant price.

Through the joint efforts of Civil Aviation, Fisheries, Belize Airport Authority, and BAHA, they were able to make this bust today. However, while they have the seafood in possession, there are no reports of anyone being detained.

On Monday there will be a press brief at Fisheries where more details will be shared.

Notably, a new fisheries act which came into effect last month imposes very serious penalties for persons dealing in undersized seafood.
