And now moving to the Capital City, the Belmopan City Council teamed up with Pathlight and the Belize Audubon Society to plant some much needed mahogany trees in the Maya Mopan Park. According to the representatives, this initiative won't only beautify the park but will serve to inject more oxygen into the environment. Here's how they put it:

Jovaughn Hamilton, Pathlight Mentor
"Earth Day is celebrated worldwide and our student body is no exception so today we are here in the Maya Mopan Field, we are planting 30 mahogany trees, donated by Belize Audubon Society, and we're also working alongside with the Belmopan City Council as well."

"It's an exciting day for us, the team, the student body, everyone is out here, excited, they are getting their hands dirty and planting the mahogany trees, they are also picking up dirt in order to protect and save our environment and keep it clean."

Dareece Chuc, Environmental Education & Communications Director
"We are happy to have been able to support Pathlight today with their wonderful initiative to plant 30 mahogany trees here in Belmopan. As you know, Belize Audubon Society celebrates Earth Day every year and one of our main activities is our greening across Belize and with that we give people the opportunity to get a tree for free and plant it in your community, with your family, with your friends and so Pathlight did a really good job today in identifying a place in Belmopan that needs trees and they're creating a really nice environment for the community to benefit from."

Hope Amadi, Councillor, Belmopan CitCo
"The initiative is the grow more trees, provide shade in the future, more oxygen circulation around this area and more area for children to play. So we are here today and we are working together to see that we do something positive for the community."

"This is not the only place we are doing activities, the other councillors are in different places, participating in different activities. There is something happening at UB, at this moment there are something happening at different areas and as I keep saying to people, the councillors and the mayor, we are all working together to create a good environment for the residents of Belmopan."
