And turning now to a death investigation that still has profound consequences for the police department, we're looking back at the alleged departmental negligence that led to the death of the 20-year-old Derek Uh.

The Orange Walk native was left to swelter, suffocate, and die inside a metal prisoner van on one of the hottest days of the year, when a cop who had detained him at a fair forgot he put him there.

After the tragic incident there was a commitment from the COMPOL to refurbish those vans and get a human rights commission to help in the redesign. When we caught up with him at this morning's inauguration we asked how that process was going. Here's what he told us:

The police already have one of the new types of the van, but it still requires an expensive modification to make it ideal.
