Today a recruit officer with the police department became the first person to be charged with Cybercrime offenses after she allegedly sent obscene and vulgar messages to her mother-in-law on three different occasions.

It started in October when 23-year-old Shania Dominguez insulted the victim and her son, with whom Dominguez has a child, via a text message. After the victim blocked the number, in November, Dominguez sent another insulting text. And then in December, she used a Facebook page to send a third message to the victim.

Dominguez, a resident of Biscayne, appeared unrepresented in court where she was read 3 offenses under the Cybercrime Act. The Senior Magistrate did not take any plea from her and explained to her that on her next court date, the prosecutor will be able to say if the matter will be dealt with summarily or on indictment.

Dominguez was offered bail of $4,000 plus one surety of the same amount, which she was able to meet. Her next court date is set for March 14.
