There was a legit cops and robbers shootout in Corozal town this morning - and tonight it is fortunate that a policeman was only grazed.
Around 10:00, 4 armed, masked men stormed into Almacen Shanti store on 4th avenue. The owner Kishur Kumar told police that they demanded his cash and stole $3,000 US dollars in cash and 250,000 Mexican pesos - all amounting to more than 60 thousand Belize dollars - all stuffed in a sling bag.
They escaped in a Green Geo Prism car without license plates. That vehicle was later found in the Finca Solana Area, and when police got there they found the empty sling bag and then came under fire from the robbers who were hiding out in the bushes. A police constable was shot to the right shoulder, and was rushed to the hospital. He is stable, but the robbers have not been found with the loot.
