Belmopan has 9,400 voters, and for John Saldivar, for 1,000 of them to come out and say that they don't care one bit about all that State Department and Lev Dermen noise is for him a ringing endorsement. And he believes - or maybe hopes - that the convention puts an end to a scandal that has dogged him for three years now:

"That's not for me to decide, it's for others who criticized me to decide to give it up. The people of Belmopan have spoken, so if they still want to march like little Johnny against what everybody is saying, that's up to them."
UDP Leader Shyne Barrow put out a statement this morning saying quote, "The people of Belmopan have spoken in one of our most sacred Democratic exercises. Thus we respectfully move forward with the choice of the People. I called all 3 candidates to wish them well and ask Mr Lovell and Torres to come together to support all the efforts of Mr Saldivar in Belmopan." End quote.
