And though that was two plus years ago, today Mira was still supremely confident that he has a quantitative and qualitative edge on Saldivar. He said that neither the convention numbers nor the outcome faze him even a little:
Oscar Mira, Area Rep, Belmopan
"I am glad now to know that there is a standard bearer for the UDP so I know who is my opponent. He was soundly rejected in the 2020 general elections. It wasn't by mistake and it wasn't just a one-off thing either. I think that we are both different regardless of what he says, he has been designated by the United States as being very corrupt and the people of Belmopan, not the UDP's, but the people of Belmopan will decide. I think they are very much, they know that the work that I bring for the citizens of Belmopan is, I give it all, we have been working on infrastructure, we have been working on aiding with educational incentives, we have been working in many ways, things that the people of Belmopan are satisfied with the work that I'm doing and the representation that I bring to them."
"Honest and integrity, it's something that my opponent talks about. Sometimes I wonder if he's joking, but it is something I think that for me, my reputation and my integrity what I have and that is what I have been representing the people of Belmopan with."
"900 is about 9%, 9% of the voting population of Belmopan, not even 10% of the voting population of Belmopan. That's what he got. Overall, we have over 10,000 voters in Belmopan."`

"Did you encourage anyone to go out and vote?"
Oscar Mira, Area Rep, Belmopan
"I did not have any horse in that race. That is their convention. I let it be. Many of those that went to vote, went to vote because they got a day pay and I was being told exactly that - minister I gone vote, because I collect. I don't know how true that is. I did not see it, I did not go out there."

"Some people are speculating that you are the one, to compete against him to make sure he got that seat."
Oscar Mira, Area Rep, Belmopan
"It doesn't matter who out of the UDP won. It didn't matter who won. I think that the people of Belmopan are satisfied with the work that I am doing and with the representation that they have. It didn't matter. He won his convention. He knows, he is a seasoned politician. He knows how to win, regardless of how he did it, he know how to win a convention. So, I must say that it was a UDP convention. It wasn't a general election, so I am satisfied that we are doing well and that we will continue to work hard. Is there more to do? of course there's more to do here in Belmopan and we are getting there. Come general elections, we are confident, my team is confident that we will be victorious again."
