Of course, while Pop's case is just coming to light more than two years after it happened - the case that has gripped the nation's attention is that of Joseph Budna - who was kidnapped last Friday in Orange Walk and delivered to Guatemalan Police in Arenal.
In his case, the Foreign Ministry has said it, quote, "remains committed to upholding the rights and welfare of all Belizean nationals and has instructed the Embassy of Belize in Guatemala to provide consular support to Mr. Budna to ensure that he receives the medical assistance needed and that his human rights are protected."
On Tuesday he told us that his abductors - who he insists are Belize police - beat him very badly:

"I'm badly beaten by the Belize police Department. I'm badly beaten and hurt bad."
That was Joseph Budna when we spoke to him on Tuesday in Guatemalan lockdown.
He re-told the events of his abduction - after he finished this live broadcast between the Orange Walk Police Station and the Courthouse on Friday night - as he tells it, it was a coordinated kidnapping led by a vehicle that looked like this 2015 Chevy Equinox:

"That is when a sky blue Equinox drove when I tried to run and I turned up back to run. I was running towards Banquitas. That Equinox blocked my way and men was coming running my way with baston in their hands and their masks on."
It happened in plain view of surveillance cameras at the Treasury and the library. Sources tell 7news that police investigators have taken possession of those DVR's since Saturday.
But reliable reports tell us the video shows that uniformed police did respond from the station - and were waved off and returned to the station.

"Police came out from the Orange Walk police formation because eI was resisting while they were beating me in my head to knock me out."
"That is when police in uniform came out and these men identified themselves as police officers to these police. So there was oohing that the uniform police could have done to these ones here."
But Budna alleges another vehicle was involved too - eyewitnesses tell us it was a silver Ford Explorer, 2010-12 model

"And they were well prepared for me because if I run to Banquitas they had a vehicle."
Budna's vehicle with his possessions were left behind - as he was taken in the Equinox.
He said he was handed over to the Guatemalan PNC at Arenal almost four hours later - between midnight and 1:00 am

"And I told the guys them my money may chain thy popped my chain, they seh you cyaah Ker no money they took about 800 dollars my chain they pop it off of me - they took my tennis and dash inside the blue sky SUV that they bring me in and they left noh. All of them still had on mask."
Today the Channel 7, Channel 5 and X-TV called on the police to release the surveillance videos from the Treasury Department, the House of culture and the Town library - which were all adjacent to the area of abduction.
