
And while the Pomona villagers are angry about the abuse of the North Stann Creek River - Maya Mopan residents outside Belmopan blocked the road in the village this morning to send a message.
It's a property dispute and about 75 farmers stand to lose the land they have under cultivation. But now, a court order has directed them to evacuate the premises. While they question the validity of the order, the group says that the request is unfair, as they have been living there and working the land for the past 15+ years.
So this morning, they blocked access to the road in an attempt to stop the officer's of the court from entering the property and destroying their buildings.
The man in the hot seat now is their Area Representative Oscar Mira - they claim he told them he'd help them own it if they voted for him.
Mira has now told them he does have lands for them... it's just not the one that they're on - since that is private.
The dispute goes back some years to property that the then Barrow Administration acquired from the Belmopan Land Development Corporation Limited. But suitable compensation was never arrived at - so the land reverted to private ownership.
