Yesterday we shared with you some of the details on the scene of yesterday's murder in the Martins area of the city. Jomarie Lanza was one of the first to arrive at the scene and here's what she saw.
Residents say they heard the shots in the area at 4:15 yesterday afternoon, but it resembled the sounds of construction work, as if someone was hammering zinc onto their rooftop, but sadly that was not the case.
It wasn't until police trucks flocked to the area and taped off the scene on Rosalind Bradley Street that they learned there had been a broad daylight murder.
The victim, later identified as 20 year old Rasheed Parham was reportedly hunted down by his killer until he was fatally shot causing him to fall to the ground, leaving one of his slippers a good distance behind him. He was running for his life.
About an hour after as scenes of crime began their work on the scene family members began to appear, one by one, in shock and riddle with grief demanding an explanation from the officers on the scene. All with the same question, what was their loved one doing in the area?
Parham was reportedly self employed, and according to residents he had frequented in the area in days prior to, leading one to suspect that someone may have been watching his movements in this - the turf of a rival gang. Family members declined to comment at the scene - but his father said he just wanted to make sure his other two sons were safe from harm.
Police have made no arrests and have made it their priority to suppress any retaliation from the rival gang in the area.
