Yesterday the BNTU issued a somewhat surprising release saying "the teachers union urges all educational institutions to review and revise their grooming policies to ensure they are free from racial, cultural, and gender bias. Policies must be rooted in respect, not control."

Well, today, Enio Lopez who is a Trustee on the Orange Walk BNTU Executive fired off a response saying, quote, "Most, if not all, members of the BNTU are deeply concerned about your letter released to the media on the issue of school hair policy."

He explains quote, "Such a sweeping mandate risks undermining the authority of school administrations by creating the impression that rules themselves are oppressive, rather than protective"and adds, quote, "Madam President, while your call may appear progressive, it dangerously undermines the discipline and order that schools are obligated to uphold…Schools cannot function as institutions of limitless self-expression; they must be centers of order where respect is learned through boundaries. I urge you to reconsider your statement, for dismantling grooming policies is not liberation; it is a disservice." End quote.
