The Ministry of Health and Wellness yesterday received the gift of a new ambulance for the Northern Regional Hospital. At a value of 200 thousand dollars, it's fully equipped with all the bells and whistles inside. And it's thanks to a donation made by the Embassy of Japan in Belize. The minister spoke more about how this donation will improve emergency response services in that community.

Kevin Bernard, Minister of Health and Wellness

"As I highlighted in my message this is not just one ambulance but we have had contributions from them for several of our facilities, this is a second one for Orange walk and this adds onto our fleet of ambulances and of course as I said as we try to improve in terms of emergency care an ambulance is the first point where you have to address any emergency and we want to ensure that the ambulances that we have are fully equipped if you look in this ambulance you will see everything equipped as I was pointed out. This ambulance can also carry a person in ICU, an ICU patient because it is well equipped with oxygen and all the necessary things that are needed from a medical standpoint. So this just adds to the fleet of ambulances and adds to the improvement of care and delivery of service to the people that we serve."

Nobuyuki Shirakata, Japan Ambassador to Belize
"The government of Japan is very much pleased to have provided technical support to the health service to help Belizean citizens in this community and wider society. Going forward the government of Japan will continue to work in close collaboration with our Belizean counterparts in the critical area of development such as health, emergency care response, agriculture, community development and education of which are critical pillars in materializing the human security concept."
