And while that brazen act of violence has the city on edge tonight, the current wave of violence started from yesterday evening when there were two murders.
We'll start with the second one which happened in the Belize District. The quiet of an evening in Los Lagos for a family of five was shattered when a gunman stormed into a residence and killed the man of the house.
But why would a gunman with only murder on his mind go to the home of businessman Marco Miranda and kill him in front of his family?
That is what the family of the deceased and the community of Los Lagos is asking tonight. Here's what we gathered on scene of this latest murder:
Just after 8:00 last night In Los Lagos, 37 year old Marco Miranda was inside his home - sitting on the living room couch with his wife - and his three children in the bedroom - when a masked gunman kicked open the door and barged in. The gunman wore full black and wore a black rag over his face. He wasted no time and fired several gunshots directly at Miranda, hitting him multiple times to his body. It was over in a few shocking seconds, and the gunman dashed out into the night - while Miranda's wife scrambled to rush her dying husband to the hospital. He succumbed to his injuries on the way there.
This morning the Scenes of Crime team continued to process the scene where they found a number of expended shells.
Today's crime scene had only recently become a new home for this family - which has its roots in Yo Creek.
According to one neighbor Miranda and his family had just moved into the house he purchased from a Doctor and had not even been living in the area for more than a year.
There was nothing taken and nothing to suggest a robbery - so it was a hit, clear and deliberate but tonight the community and the police are asking why.
Miranda managed a gas station while his wife is an education officer.
So far, no arrests have been made.
