And yesterday's first murder happened in the Orange Walk District.

A 27 year old Carmelita village resident, Leonardo Vasquez was fatally shot yesterday evening just before 6:00 in what appears to be a robbery turned murder.

Vasquez and a friend were both heading home on motorcycle when two men on another motorcycle intercepted them and began to demand money.

Vasquez retreated into a nearby yard, but the gunman fired a shot as he got inside a house. He was hit to the face and died from his injuries. The neighbor - who is also the owner of the home - spoke about it off camera.

Voice of Neighbor
"Well according to the sister in law or what I understand he saw the guy pulled the gun on him and he ran into my house trying to lock my door and because I have a small little opening I guess the guy peeped on him but I don't know because I wasn't here, I am guessing because like how can you just? Through the door so I just guess that maybe his head was there and one bullet hope."

"I'm very shocked and I mean yes they are my neighbors we know each other I know those little boys from they were very young but to know it happened in my house, and I had my kids home I was at work you know it could have easily gone the other way my baby was here and I don't know it's very shocking."

"We are left to clean up all the mess we have been cleaning from last night actually and we are still cleaning up to now, still cleaning."

Reporter-
"Does it haunt you when you are in your house and you think about it?"

Voice of Neighbor
"Yes it does, it does. I don't really see those things happen a lot. I don't see those things happen at all and much less in my home and just to think my son was here I think that part scares me the most you know."

So far no arrests have been made.
