And despite these incidents, Perez maintains that it does not interfere with the tourism on the island, and it is safe for all to come out and spend the Easter holidays. Perez and the Chairperson for Caye Caulker Seleny Villanueva Pott, says the cayes are ready for the Easter festivities.

"Well my message to both San Pedro and Caye Caulker, we are ready and we welcome everyone here, that everything is in place, we are having good weather you know we have some rain but we are struggling with the sargassum as always but the communities are both ready, all the restaurants, particularly we are talking about conch season, it is going to close on Tuesday, in particular for the easter so. Come here it is safe, very very safe and that is important and of course the community welcomes you with open arms."

"We are ready, we are ready by all means we have to activate our different emergency plans we have met with the police, we spoke to the fire chief we have spoken to the nurse, everybody, it has become so routine for us that we know when the middle of march comes around there are different things that we need to touch base with and it is definitely a plus to have the coast guard on board as well."
