In other news, today the Belize City Council held its second annual primary school donation ceremony, where they handed over cleaning supplies to principals of all 31 primary schools in the city. It started during the Covid era, but the council decided to keep it going, since schools are always in need of cleaning supplies. Today the Mayor told us more.

Bernard Wagner, Mayor of Belize City
"It really includes sanitization supplies, hand care products, to really ensure sanitation is kept because we're still in a Covid environment so we wanted to maintain this program and today it was a wonderful ceremony."

Courtney Menzies:
"What's the feedback like from the principals when they receive their donations?"

Bernard Wagner, Mayor of Belize City
"Awesome, they have been looking forward for this event each and every year. It's the second one and being able to assist our principals in the huge task they have, they have a lot of challenges, everybody has a lot of challenges across the city, but the main thing here is that while we may not be mandated to provide education, we can help our teachers, we can help our principals, we can help our schools, just providing the basic sanitation supplies, products. We might not be, what would you say, in terms of being able to take care of crime, but we can do our part in the type of summer programs we had this summer, keeping the kids off the street, engaging them in a positive environment and that sort of thing."
