A relentless heat wave gripping this region is about to enter its third week - and Belizeans are taking a licking!

But, as thing's heat up outside, can you imagine how hot the classrooms are for the student's and the teacher's teaching inside?

Today we asked one teacher how they've been dealing with the heat over at Wesley lower school. Here's what she shared with us.

Kimberly Heusner, Teacher, Wesley Lower School
"It's been unbearable and we have been dying. It's been incredibly hot. Some of the classrooms are a little airy because of course here we are close to the sea so maybe one or two or the upstairs classrooms would have a little sea breeze coming but you know sea breeze after lunch? That is a siesta time and we are exhausted. It is so hot. There are classrooms downstairs where you know there are buildings here and buildings there. It is blocking all the breeze. It's very difficult to teach and if you're there teaching and doing all these activities the kids are burning up that energy they are overworked it's very difficult for them to learn. A lot of days they are like what they are not going to dismiss us we have to teach through this? And it was so much chaos that day especially when it was low water pressure you know it is very frustrating. It is hot. It's hot in front of the fan and worse when there is no electricity we are dying and melting and it is dark. There are some classrooms that are very dark and I don't know about the other classrooms in the other schools around this district. I don't know about the other classrooms countrywide. Some of them are very poorly ventilated and some of them are very dark. It is an incredible challenge to teach without the luxury of electricity."
