As we've reported, construction of the new Haulover Bridge has commenced and as its first order of work, M&M Engineering is installing two permanent foundation piers in the middle of the river just downstream of the existing bridge.
Starting today that means multiple heavy lifting barges are on the river as platforms for the heavy equipment used in driving piles and constructing reinforced concrete piers.
And that's why they have asked boaters to go slow when approaching the Haulover Bridge from both sides - and erected "No Wake" signs in the area.
But, the engineer reached out to us to raise awareness because as these racing jet skis captured today demonstrated, the boating public is largely ignoring the signs. This could lead to dangerous accidents because the barge will be moving at times to ferry materials, equipment and personnel.
Authorities are again asking the boating public to respect the signs and exercise due caution when navigating through the worksite.
