And perhaps right on cue, on Tuesday Cabinet approved the implementation of a 6 month moratorium on the approval and construction of buildings exceeding 45 feet in height and/or greater than 3 floors in Caye Caulker, Hopkins, the Placencia Peninsula, and Sittee River. A release says the reason for this moratorium is to give the government adequate time to undertake public consultations and technical assessments regarding development in these communities.

Cabinet also approved for the establishment of SARA, the Semi-Autonomous Revenue Authority through the transformation of the Belize Tax Service Department into the Belize Revenue Authority. However, this will be subject to consultation with key stakeholders, including representatives of staff and the business community. This transformation will be implemented in phases.
