And, for the law enforcement officers who will be policing those shelters, viral protection is also very important. According to the Ministry of Health, 42 law enforcement personnel - that is, between the Police, the BDF and the Coast Guard - have tested positive for COVID.

The Commissioner today amplified Defour's remarks on the need for absolute COVID care within the shelters:

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"We also want to ensure that the persons who go to the shelter that they do not move all over the shelter. Try to confine yourselves to the area allotted to you. We still have to ensure that there is adequate social distancing within the shelters, so families would have to stay within their own sphere and ensure that there is adequate social distance between them and other families. These things are important for us and our officers who will be working at these shelters will be given as well the adequate PPE gears, because we need to ensure that our officers are safe."
