Tonight a Belize City family is mourning after their loved one met a most unexpected end in a freak accident.

29-year-old Security Guard Marc Russell left for his post guarding the Feinstein Boatyard on Sunday, but never came home.

Around 3pm while on their pier - Russell had a seizure. He fell into the sea and did not resurface.

According to police, he had a history of seizures - this particular one just happened while he was on a pier. His coworker had just finished having a conversation with him when the incident occurred, but was unable to save him.

Senior Supt. Hilberto Romero has more details

Senior Supt. Hilberto Romero, Deputy Head NCIB

"Police visiting seashore drive where they retrieve the body of Steve Kelly, 50 years, from the water. Information received is that he was doing security guard duties along with another security guard in that area when he suffered a seizure and fell into the water, hitting his head on one of the boats, and he went under the boat. The person that was there attempted to rescue him but he could not bring him out. The body was taken to the KHMH where he was pronounced dead on arrival. That is what the investigation revealed, that he has had a history of having seizures. No foul plays suspected at this time."

His sister told us today that she was too broken up by the loss to comment.
